QVC New Beauty Test Tube- April 2014 Review

About a week ago, I had a few days off in a row, and for me that always means trouble. On days off my idle hands can’t help but find mischief. In other words, I’m subscribed to another box! Well, a tube I suppose.

I’d love to tell you all about my newest sample subscription, QVC New Beauty Test Tube! Oddly, this service is not to be confused with New Beauty Test Tube, which is sent out every two months with six tubes total. QVC New Beauty Test Tube is fulfilled through the QVC site, and sent out every three months, with four tubes total. The service costs $29.99 plus shipping and tax (which generally equals out to about $38 for me.) The package includes product samples, a very informative pamphlet about the products and brands featured in the tube, and an issue of New Beauty magazine. If you aren’t sure you’r ready to commit to a year of QVC New Beauty Test Tube, you can purchase the tubes individually.

New Beauty Magazine- Value $9.95. I really enjoy this magazine! I think it is very informative, and if I weren’t subscribing the the Test Tube, I’d still pick these issues up at the grocery store. The magazine has excellent beauty content, rivaled only by perhaps Allure magazine. A word of caution to my darling readers: New Beauty’s target audience is definitely an older crowd. The magazine emphasizes anti-aging techniques, and promotes cosmetic surgery. The second half of the magazine is basically an index of surgeons by location. Stupidity to be ignored. Don’t compare yourself to someone else’s definition of the ideal form. You are the only you, and that is something really beautiful.

Mally High-Shine Liquid Lipstick Pen in “Blossom”- FULL SIZE!- Value $20. This is a great nude shade for me! It is close to my natural lip color, and just adds a little shimmer and dimension. I really like the formula, and am excited to pair this baby with a smoky eye.

Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Vitamin C Collagen Booster (0.25 fl oz.)- Deluxe Sample- Value $12. I have a big pile of serums to get to, so I passed the Truth Serum to Celeste. She says that while it is too early to tell if the product is working, she likes the smell and texture.

Algenist Genius Ultimate Anti-Aging Cream – Deluxe Sample-Value $12.65. This product is getting slapped right on the lines I’m beginning to see on my forehead! (Richie says when I smell like cinnamon pie when I’m wearing this.)  🙂

Wen Pomegranate Smoothing Glossing Serum- Full Size!- Value $28 value. I’ve always wanted to try Wen products! I don’t think I’d ever pay $28 for this product, but so far, so good!

St. Tropez Self Tan Bronzing Mousse – Deluxe Sized Sample- Value $8.87. I like to rock a paleness that rivals that of the undead, so I’m passing this self-tanner on to Celeste. She couldn’t be more thrilled about it. 🙂

Murad Essential C Cleanser- Deluxe Sized Sample- Value $8. Gotta’ be real. I don’t love this. It seems to really be drying my skin out.

Dalton H2Glo- Travel Sized- Value $16.95? (The only link I can find to this exact product is on amazon.com.) This is ABSOLUTELY my favorite item in the tube. This highlighter is creamy and sheer. It highlights, but is not to bright, contains no glitter, and very little shimmer. The champagne color is perfect for my skin tone. Some are too bronze, some too pink, some highlighters are bright white. This one? Puuurrrrrrffeecctt.

Peter Thomas Roth Mega Rich Shampoo -Deluxe Sized Sample- Value $2.25. Peter Thomas Roth Mega-Rich Conditioner- Deluxe Sized Sample- Value $1.69. I don’t usually use hair products with sulfates, but I wanted to try these products out. The shampoo seems pretty okay, and I will get several uses out of it. For me, the conditioner was HORRIBLE. It took the entire sample (a decent amount of product) to get any slip. This product may be wonderful for others though. I have pretty difficult hair.

According to my math, the total value of the included samples and the magazine is $120.36. To be honest, though, the only product I’d call life changing is the Dalton H2Glo. I’ll keep the subscription for at least one more tube, but it if doesn’t wow me, I’m cancelling. The subscription is too expensive to be anything but thrilled with it. On the positive side of life, shipping was super quick and efficient.
